A British dentist has invented a technique known as photo-activated disinfection or PAD for attacking decay in teeth. The method, popular in Australia and in Japan, uses a special disinfectant, activated by laser, to kill instead of drill bacteria. The tooth can then rebuild itself aided by a sealant and a porous foam tooth, which is used at home and promotes tooth growth. THE WAND

WATER-BASED LASERS
Dentists in America using hi-tech laser devices such as an alternative to anesthesia. Unlike other laser devices, laser tooth does not heat and the light directly, it uses water combined with air. The laser of high pressure water numbs the nerves of the tooth as it cuts, eliminating the need for anesthesia. The laser also sterilizes the tooth, strengthening the bond of farce. Lasers operate with greater precision than that of a year, making it easier to remove decay and treat specific areas of the tooth. The healing time is faster, therefore the risk of infection is greatly reduced. The procedure, according to patients is painless.
SURFACE ANESTHESIA
This involves using an anesthetic on the surface of the tooth or gum in the form of aerosol, ointment gel, or solution. The surface anesthesia is primarily used with procedures such as minor aches exploratory procedures, treatment of abscesses and extraction of teeth in children. The technique can also be used to de-sensitize the point of needle insertion procedures for complex dental care.

Many dentists today train their patients in hypnodontics, a form of hypnosis to control and eliminate pain. Through deep relaxation techniques, soothing ambience and calm, reassuring dentist, patients can learn to alleviate their fears and reduce their stress levels. For those who are particularly nervous, dentists sometimes practiced deep relaxation techniques, in conjunction with nitrous oxide harmless or "laughing gas".
