When we are on the market for a new printer, there are times that we must base our decision on what printer we should buy on the type of ink the printer uses. After all, we use printers for producing different types of documents, whether text, graphics, photos and more.

Choice for printer inks often face as inks or dye based or pigmented inks. Just what makes these two different from each other? What type of ink cartridges printer is better?

The first thing we need look in the differentiation ink dye ink pigment are the substances they contain. The pigmented inks are made with resin or binders that make them more resistance. The ink dye on the other hand, are made with optical brighteners to make the colors more vivid.

Given these characteristics, let us consider the desirable qualities of printer inks and how these two do for each grade.

1. Water resistance. Dye-based inks must be dissolved in order to work. They are often used in ink jet printer ink because they dissolve easily in water and therefore move easily with it. However, if a test drawn from dyes dried based ink is wet, the impression will be executed. Pigment inks, on the other hand, absorb water but do not break with she. Thus, they are more resistant to water.

2. Lightfastness. Dye-based inks have optical brighteners that make the colors bright. Such optical brighteners, however, are vulnerable to chemicals and other light, and so fade faster. Pigmented ink is ink of choice for archiving jobs since it can take years, even under light or chemical exposure.

3. The sharpness of the color. Dye-based inks are desired for the light and vibrant colors they produce. Thus, they are used for printing photos and graphics. The same can not be said of pigmented inks, they are no longer limited to printed and grayscale text documents.

Now that we know the difference between dye-based inks and pigment inks, the next question would be: What brands of printer ink are based dyes and those pigments? Here is a brief guide:

• Except for a few models, Canon ink cartridges are generally used ink dye.
• For Compaq printers, all color inks are dye-based while all black inks are pigmented.
• The same goes for the Dell printer inks.
• Except for printer inks used for their Designjet printer and some black ink, Hewlett-Packard inks used primarily to dye for colors.
• Epson sells mostly dye-based inks, but also the special pigmented black ink.
• The inks are the Lexmark pigmented black for the dye for the most colorful.

And we have the difference between dye-based inks and pigment inks. Always keep in mind that you will use your printer to obtain before choose the machine and printer ink.
